Proposal: 1.1 million-square-foot mixed development at South Boston Gillette property
A South Boston parking lot formerly owned by Gillette is being re-imagined by developers who say the space could be home to a 1.1 million-square-foot mixed-use development, complete with residential units, offices, and laboratories.
ChannelSide Acquisitions, LLC, an affiliate of Related Beal, filed a Letter of Intent with the Boston Planning and Development Agency Nov. 18, outlining its vision to transform the 244-284 A St. site alongside the Fort Point Channel.
The proposal includes plans for a 366,000-square-foot residential building and a 334,000 square-foot office building, each standing 180 feet tall, according to the filing. A third, 123-foot-tall building would house 400,000 square feet of laboratory/research and development space.
Developers say the project will include climate resilient measures — such as flood control — and sustainable features.
“We look forward to working with the BPDA, Sasaki, and our Fort Point neighbors in effectuating the development and programming of the significant open spaces that will be created as part of the project,” the letter says. “These open spaces will achieve the dual goals of being both accessible as well as adaptive and resilient, and will provide meaningful equitable and public connections within Fort Point, to the Harborwalk and beyond.”
