America’s Most Expensive Zip Code, Beyond New York and California
It probably won't come as much of a surprise that when it comes to the country's most expensive zip codes, California tops the list. Hearing New York is second probably doesn't give you the vapors either.
But leave behind the areas of San Francisco, Los Angeles and Manhattan and the map of the country's most expensive areas are a bit more evenly distributed.
Property Shark, a real estate blog focusing on market trends, has assembled a list of the most expensive zip codes in the U.S. And once you eliminate the 109 expensive zip codes in California and New York, nine states make the list—Massachusetts, Connecticut, Washington, Nevada, New Jersey, Arizona, Florida, Maryland and New Hampshire.
For the record, Atherton, Calif.'s 94027 tops the list, with an median sale price of more than $7 million this year. (It's the third year in a row it has topped the list.) Sagaponack, NY is number two, with a median sale price of $4.3 million.
Boston, Mass. is the most expensive area beyond those states, ranking sixth overall. The zip code 02199 saw an average sale price of $3.67 million. That's still a 23% contraction from last year, though.
